Introduction to Viropil Tablets Viropil Tablet is a fixed-dose combination of antiretroviral medicines used to treat HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents as prescribed by an HIV specialist. It helps lower the amount of virus in the body, supports immune recovery, and reduces the risk of HIV-related illnesses when taken exactly as directed and together with routine medical care. How Viropil helps Controls the virus: Viropil limits HIVs ability to multiply in the body. Protects immunity: By reducing viral load, it enables the immune system to function more effectively. Improves long-term outcomes: Consistent, daily use reduces the risk of complications and improves quality of life. Note: Viropil treats HIV but does not cure it. It does not prevent transmission by itselfsafer-sex practices and U=U counseling remain essential. How it works Viropil combines antiretroviral agents from different classes (usually an integrase inhibitor with two nucleoside/nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors [NRTIs] ). Working together, they: Block reverse transcriptase, an enzyme HIV uses to copy its genetic material. Block integrase, the enzyme HIV uses to insert its DNA into human cells. This dual action suppresses viral replication and helps keep the viral load undetectable when taken consistently. How to take it Take Viropil exactly as your clinician prescribes, at the same time every day . It may be taken with or without food (follow any brand-specific instructions youve been given). Do not skip doses. Skipping or stopping can raise your viral load and increase the risk of resistance. If side effects occur, do not stop on your own contact your HIV care team for advice and possible adjustments. Missed dose If you remember within a few hours, take the missed dose as soon as possible and then take the next dose at your regular time. If its close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your schedule. Please don’t double up to make up for a missed dose. Possible side effects Most side effects are mild to moderate and often improve as your body adjusts. Common: Headache, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort Dizziness, trouble sleeping, unusual dreams, fatigue, or weakness Rash or itching, nasal congestion, cough Muscle or joint aches Less common but important, seek medical advice promptly if you notice: Worsening rash with fever, mouth sores, or eye irritation Persistent vomiting or severe abdominal pain Yellowing of the skin/eyes, very dark urine (possible liver issues) Shortness of breath, new chest pain, palpitations Marked mood changes or depression Your clinician may order regular blood tests to monitor kidney function, liver function, blood counts, and electrolyte levels. Precautions and interactions Other medicines: Tell your clinician about all prescription, OTC, and herbal products. Some drugs (including certain anticonvulsants, tuberculosis treatments, antacids, and supplements containing magnesium/aluminum) can interact with antiretrovirals. You may be asked to separate dosing times or use alternatives. Alcohol: Limit alcohol. It can worsen dizziness and may put additional strain on the liver. Kidney or liver problems: The dose selection and monitoring may need to be adjusted if you have kidney or liver disease. Driving and tasks requiring alertness: If you feel dizzy, drowsy, or have trouble concentrating, avoid driving or operating machinery until you feel well. Infections and vaccines: Keep vaccinations up to date and report any new symptoms promptly. Pregnancy, family planning, and breastfeeding Pregnancy: Do not start, stop, or change Viropil without discussing it with your HIV specialist. Many modern antiretroviral regimens are used during pregnancy; your team will select the safest and most effective option for you. Breastfeeding: Guidance varies by country. Because HIV can be transmitted through breast milk, discuss infant-feeding options with your clinician to follow local recommendations and minimize transmission risk. Contraception: Ask about potential interactions between antiretrovirals and hormonal contraceptives; use reliable contraception and discuss preconception planning early. HIV transmission prevention Even with treatment, you can still transmit HIV until your viral load is durably undetectable. Your care team will counsel you on U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable) , condom use, PrEP for partners, and not sharing needles or personal items like razors or toothbrushes. When to call your clinician urgently Signs of severe allergic reaction (wheezing, swelling of face/lips/tongue, severe rash) Symptoms of liver trouble (yellow skin/eyes, severe stomach pain, dark urine) Persistent vomiting, severe diarrhea, or inability to keep medicines down New neurologic or psychiatric symptoms (severe depression, confusion, suicidal thoughts) Storage Keep tablets in the original container, tightly closed, at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Store out of the reach of children. Key reminders Take Viropil every day at the same time each day. Please don’t stop unless your clinician tells you to. Please ensure that you keep all lab and clinic appointments. Consult your doctor before starting any new medication, supplement, or herbal product. Important safety note Always ask your healthcare provider before taking any medicine.
