About Cazanat 40 mg Tablet
Cazanat 40 mg Tablet contains 40 mg of cabozantinib per tablet, supplied as a pack of 30 tablets. Cabozantinib is a targeted anticancer medicine — a multi-kinase inhibitor — prescribed and supervised by a cancer specialist.
How it works
Cabozantinib blocks several enzymes that tumours rely on, including VEGFR, MET and AXL. VEGFR drives the growth of the new blood vessels a tumour needs for oxygen and nutrients, while MET and AXL are involved in tumour cells spreading and in resistance to other treatments. Blocking them together slows the tumour and restricts its blood supply.
What it is used for
Cabozantinib is used in advanced renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer), in hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer) in people previously treated with sorafenib, and in certain thyroid cancers. The choice depends on the type and stage of the cancer and on previous treatment.
Important: this is not an anti-inflammatory medicine
Cabozantinib is not a COX-2 inhibitor and has no role in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout or dental pain. It is a cancer medicine, and it is not interchangeable with the medicines used for pain and inflammation.
Safety and monitoring
Tell your doctor straight away about bleeding of any kind, including coughing or vomiting blood or blood in the stool; about severe abdominal pain, which can signal a tear or an abnormal opening in the bowel; and about swelling, pain or redness in a leg or sudden breathlessness, which can signal a clot. A rise in blood pressure is common and is monitored. Diarrhoea is frequent, as are soreness, redness and peeling of the palms and soles. Protein in the urine, jaw pain and delayed wound healing are also monitored — tell your dentist and any surgeon that you take this medicine.
Prescription and storage
A prescription is required, and treatment is given under the supervision of a cancer specialist. Store at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight, and out of the reach of children.
