About Torinat 10 mg Tablet
Torinat 10 mg Tablet contains 10 mg of everolimus per tablet, supplied as a pack of 7 tablets. At this strength everolimus is a targeted anticancer medicine – an mTOR inhibitor. Treatment is prescribed and supervised by a cancer specialist.
How it works
mTOR is a switch inside the cell that decides whether conditions favour growth. In many tumours it is permanently on. Everolimus blocks it, so the cell stops growing and dividing, and the tumour’s blood supply is also reduced.
What it is used for
At the higher strengths everolimus is used in advanced renal cell carcinoma after other targeted treatment, in advanced hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer together with an aromatase inhibitor, and in neuroendocrine tumours of the pancreas, gut or lung. The much lower strengths of everolimus are a different medicine in practice – they are used to prevent rejection after an organ transplant.
Important: what this medicine is not
Everolimus is not a blood pressure medicine and has no role in hypertension or joint disease.
Safety and monitoring
Mouth ulcers are very common and can limit eating – tell your team early, as there are measures that help. Report any new or worsening cough or breathlessness, which can signal inflammation in the lungs. Infections are more likely, so report fever. Blood sugar and blood fats rise and are monitored, as are blood counts and kidney function. Wound healing is slower, so tell any surgeon or dentist.
Prescription and storage
A prescription from your healthcare provider is required to purchase everolimus. Store at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight, and out of the reach of children.
