About Natlimus 0.25 mg Tablet

Natlimus 0.25 mg Tablet contains 0.25 mg of everolimus per tablet, supplied as a pack of 10 tablets. At this strength everolimus is an immunosuppressant – an mTOR inhibitor – used in transplant medicine rather than in cancer.

How it works

Rejection happens when the immune system’s T cells recognise the new organ as foreign and multiply in response. Everolimus blocks mTOR, the internal switch those cells need in order to divide, so the response is damped down.

What it is used for

At the low strengths everolimus is used to prevent rejection of a transplanted kidney or liver, in combination with other immunosuppressants and a corticosteroid. The much higher strengths of everolimus are used as an anticancer medicine; the two are not interchangeable, and the strength on the pack matters.

Important: what this medicine is not

At this strength everolimus is not being used as a cancer treatment, and it has no role in bone or joint disease.

Safety and monitoring

Because it damps down the immune system, infections are more likely and some become serious – report fever, sore throat or any infection that is not settling. The long-term risk of certain cancers, including skin cancer, is increased, so protect your skin from the sun and attend your review appointments. Blood levels of the medicine are measured and the dose adjusted to them, so do not change or miss doses. Kidney function, blood counts, blood fats and blood sugar are monitored, and wound healing is slower – tell any surgeon or dentist.

Prescription and storage

A prescription from your healthcare provider is required to purchase everolimus. Store at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight, and out of the reach of children.
