Introduction to Ricovir EM Tablet
Ricovir EM Tablets are a combination of antiretroviral medication used for HIV prevention (PrEP – Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) and treatment. Manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Ricovir EM contains Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (300mg) and Emtricitabine (200mg), two powerful molecules that block HIV from multiplying in the body.
Ricovir-EM is a generic PrEP medication and an effective alternative to Truvada.
Ricovir EM tablet is specifically designed to lower the risk of HIV infection in high-risk individuals. It is also used as part of combination therapy for people already living with HIV.
How Ricovir EM Works
Ricovir EM contains two active ingredients:
- Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (300mg): Blocks the reverse transcriptase enzyme, stopping HIV from making copies of itself.
- Emtricitabine (200mg): Works similarly to Tenofovir, preventing the virus from growing and spreading.
Together, these ingredients reduce the viral load in the blood and help prevent the virus from taking hold in new infections.
Uses of Ricovir EM
- Prevention of HIV (PrEP): PrEP is for individuals at high risk of contracting HIV, including those with HIV-positive partners.
- HIV Treatment: Used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs to manage HIV infection.
- Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP): May be used after possible exposure to HIV, under a doctor’s advice.
