About Invista 70 mg Tablet
Invista 70 mg Tablet contains dasatinib, a targeted cancer medicine supplied in a pack of 10 tablets, taken by mouth once daily as prescribed. Swallow the tablets whole; do not crush or split them.
How it works
In Philadelphia chromosome-positive leukaemias an abnormal protein called BCR-ABL acts as a permanently switched-on growth signal, driving the bone marrow to produce abnormal white cells. Dasatinib is a second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor that blocks BCR-ABL, together with several related kinases, switching that signal off.
What it is used for
Dasatinib is used in the treatment of Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukaemia, in newly diagnosed disease and after other treatments including imatinib, and in Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. The diagnosis is confirmed by genetic testing before treatment.
Important safety information
Dasatinib can cause fluid to collect around the lungs or the heart, so any new breathlessness, cough or chest discomfort should be reported promptly. It lowers blood counts, and blood tests are taken regularly. It can affect the heart rhythm and increase the risk of bleeding. Avoid grapefruit, and tell your doctor about all other medicines and supplements you take, including stomach-acid medicines, which can reduce how much dasatinib is absorbed. It can harm an unborn baby.
This is a prescription-only medicine. It should be used only under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional, who will decide whether it is suitable for you and at what dose.
