About Dasatinib
Dasatinib is a second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) used to treat chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) and Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (Ph+ ALL). It works by blocking the BCR-ABL fusion protein and several other kinases including SRC family kinases, which drive the uncontrolled growth of leukaemia cells.
Marketed as Sprycel, dasatinib is taken as a once-daily oral tablet. It is used as first-line therapy for newly diagnosed CML and as a second-line option for patients resistant to or intolerant of imatinib. Dasatinib achieves deeper molecular responses faster than imatinib in many patients. Indian manufacturers produce dasatinib in 20 mg, 50 mg, 70 mg, and 100 mg tablet strengths.
Common questions
Is a generic the same as the brand I was prescribed?
