About Dasamyl 50 mg Tablet

Dasamyl 50 mg Tablet contains 50 mg of dasatinib per tablet, supplied as a pack of 30 tablets. Dasatinib is a targeted anticancer medicine – a BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitor. Treatment is prescribed and supervised by a cancer specialist.

How it works

In chronic myeloid leukaemia an abnormal chromosome creates a fused gene, BCR-ABL, whose protein signals the cell to divide continuously. Dasatinib binds that protein and switches the signal off, so the leukaemic cells stop multiplying.

What it is used for

Dasatinib is used in Philadelphia-chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukaemia and in Philadelphia-chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, including disease resistant to or intolerant of earlier treatment.

Important: what this medicine is not

Dasatinib is not a medicine for diabetes, epilepsy, nerve pain or any neurological condition.

Safety and monitoring

Blood counts fall, particularly in the first months, and are checked regularly – report fever, bruising or bleeding. Fluid can collect around the lungs, so new breathlessness, cough or chest pain needs prompt assessment. Raised pressure in the lung arteries has been reported rarely. Headache, tiredness, rash and diarrhoea are common. Many medicines and grapefruit affect its levels, so list everything you take.
