Introduction to Glivec Imatinib 100mg
Glivec Imatinib 100 mg is produced by Novartis. It is an innovative drug in the area of oncology as well as in hematology. Imatinib was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in May 2001. This approval transformed the treatment of some particular types of cancer and blood diseases. With the drug, targeted therapy is available which results in better outcomes for patients.
There are 100mg and 400mg tablets of Glivec. This range caters to varying treatment requirements. Glivec’s active ingredient is Imatinib. Imatinib drug is a member of the family of medications known as tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI). Such medications combat and disable certain abnormal proteins that encourage the incessant growth of cells characteristic of specific malignant tumors.
Imatinib targets a tumor that is chronic myeloid leukemia or CML. Glivec is an approved immunotherapeutic drug that has been proven to alter the anticipated longevity of blood cancer. FDA's approval of this drug was one of the first positive steps in controlling a cancer epidemic. Glivec is classified as an advanced treatment out of quadrants chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery.
Imatinib mechanism of action
Glivec Imatinib 100mg is known to target and inhibit specific proteins called tyrosine kinases. These proteins are crucial for cellular signaling which controls cell growth, division, and survival. In the case of some tumors and blood disorders, deregulated tyrosine kinases cause excessive cell growth and tumors to form.
Glivec consists of Imatinib, which is a Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor(TKI). Tyrosine Kinases are proteins that control the growth of cells. However, in some cancers, these proteins are excessively expressed resulting in excessive cell division. Glivec prevents such expression of tyrosine kinases which may lead to cancerous cell growth. It decreases the chances of cancer metastasis and helps to achieve regression of specific blood cancers.
Apart from working for cancer patients, Glivec is useful for patients with certain immune system diseases. It can control the over-production of mast cells. Such over-production poses a difficulty in cases like aggressive systemic mastocytosis and hypereosinophilic syndrome. The approach that Glivec uses is specific for the cancerous cells while sparing normal cells, therefore it may be very useful in chemotherapy for cancers and other diseases.
Uses of Glivec
- Glivec effectively treats this type of white blood cell cancer by targeting proteins causing the disease. It slows progression and induces remission by controlling the overproduction of immature white cells.
- For cases with Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+ ALL), Glivec inhibits the spread and growth of cancer cells, improving treatment success.
- Glivec is highly valued for treating GIST, a cancer of the stomach muscles. It helps shrink tumors, reduces recurrence, and controls mass growth.
- Glivec addresses various blood cancers by targeting and reducing excessive cell division in affected areas.
- This rare immune disorder causes an overproduction of mast cells. Glivec regulates mast cell activity, alleviating symptoms and slowing disease progression.
- High eosinophil levels in the blood can damage organs. Glivec lowers eosinophil counts and prevents further harm.
- For this rare skin cancer, Glivec is effective in inhibiting tumor growth and preventing cancer spread, ensuring better patient outcomes.
