Alerid Tablet is a medication primarily used to alleviate symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis and other allergic conditions. Its active ingredient is Cetirizine Dihydrochloride, a second-generation antihistamine. Cetirizine works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. Histamine is released when the body encounters an allergen, leading to itching, sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes. By inhibiting histamine, Alerid Tablet effectively reduces these uncomfortable symptoms.
Indications for Alerid Tablet include the symptomatic treatment of perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria (hives), and other allergic skin conditions. The typical dosage for adults and children aged 12 years and over is one 10mg tablet once daily. For children aged 6 to 12 years, the dosage is usually 5mg twice daily or 10mg once daily. It is important to swallow the tablet whole with water and not to crush or chew it. Common side effects may include drowsiness, dry mouth, fatigue, and sore throat.
