Description
Bicatero 50 Mg Tablet contains bicalutamide 50 mg, a
non-steroidal antiandrogen used in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer.
It is manufactured by Hetero Healthcare.
Prostate cancer cells rely on androgens to grow. Bicalutamide binds the androgen receptor and
blocks testosterone and dihydrotestosterone from signalling the tumour, without lowering hormone
levels itself. At 50 mg once daily it is given together with an LHRH analogue such as
goserelin or leuprolide, or after surgical castration, because androgen blockade alone
would be incomplete.
Important safety information
- Liver function. Bicalutamide can raise liver enzymes and, rarely, cause
serious hepatic injury. Liver function is checked before treatment, regularly during the first
four months, and whenever symptoms such as jaundice, dark urine, nausea or right-sided abdominal
pain appear. - Breast tenderness and gynaecomastia are common when it is used without an
LHRH analogue. - Interstitial lung disease has been reported rarely; new breathlessness or a
persistent cough should be reported. - Hot flushes, reduced libido and photosensitivity may occur.
Bicatero 50 Mg Tablet is a prescription-only medicine. Take it at the same
time each day under oncological supervision, and do not stop treatment without medical advice.
Store below 30 °C, away from moisture and direct sunlight, out of the reach of children.
