Description

Azatirel 100 mg Injection contains azacitidine 100 mg, made by Reliance Life Sciences. Azacitidine is a hypomethylating agent: it acts on the DNA of abnormal blood-forming cells so that they grow less and mature more normally.

It is used for higher-risk myelodysplastic syndromes, chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia and acute myeloid leukaemia, mainly in adults who cannot have a stem cell transplant.

It is a prescription-only medicine given by injection under the supervision of an oncologist or haematologist, who sets the dose and schedule. Common side effects include low blood counts, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, tiredness, fever and injection-site reactions; blood counts are checked during treatment.
