Introduction:
This is a combination therapy of Alfuzosin and Dutasteride. Alfuzosin is an alpha-adrenergic blocker and Dutasteride is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor. The individual drugs are FDA-approved, with Dutasteride approved in 2001 and Alfuzosin in 2003, but the combination is often used off-label.
Uses:
It is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) by relaxing prostate muscles and reducing prostate size.
How it Works:
Alfuzosin relaxes bladder neck muscles, while Dutasteride reduces the size of the prostate by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
Side Effects:
Side effects include decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, dizziness, and breast tenderness. Rarely, it may cause serious allergic reactions or prostate cancer.
