Introduction:
This combination is used to treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and related gastrointestinal disorders. Chlordiazepoxide is a benzodiazepine with anxiolytic properties, and Mebeverine is an antispasmodic that relaxes the muscles of the gut.
How it Works:
Chlordiazepoxide: Reduces anxiety, which can exacerbate IBS symptoms.
Mebeverine: Relieves cramps and spasms in the intestinal muscles, improving symptoms of IBS. This reduces the excitation of the neurons, producing muscle relaxation and sedation. Mebeverine is an antispasmodic that relaxes the muscles by inhibiting gastrointestinal propulsive motility and gastric acid secretion.
