Introduction to Lamivudine,tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate
This combination drug is used for the treatment of HIV-1 and hepatitis B.
How it Works:
Lamivudine and Tenofovir block reverse transcriptase, preventing the virus from making copies of itself.
Uses:
- Treatment of HIV-1 infection.
- Treatment of chronic hepatitis B.
Side Effects:
- Nausea
- headache
- dizziness.
- Rare: kidney problems and bone density loss.
FDA Approval:
Approved by the FDA for HIV in 2006 and for chronic hepatitis B in 2008.
