The combination of metformin & vildagliptin drug is used to manage type 2 diabetes. Metformin is a biguanide that reduces glucose production, while Vildagliptin enhances insulin secretion. This is also used in the treatment of insulin sensitivity and weight management.
Mechanism of Action of Metformin & Vildagliptin
These drugs work by combining the mechanisms of its two active ingredients, Vildagliptin and Metformin, to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. Vildagliptin functions by inhibiting the enzyme DPP-4, which increases active incretin hormone levels, stimulating insulin secretion and decreasing glucagon release. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production, improves peripheral glucose uptake, and improves insulin sensitivity through AMPK activation. This combined action helps regulate blood sugar levels through complementary pathways.
