Introduction
Thioguanine is a purine analogue used as a chemotherapy agent in the treatment of certain types of cancers, particularly acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It interferes with the growth of cancer cells, slowing or stopping their proliferation. Thioguanine was initially approved by the US FDA in 1966 for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia.
How Thioguanine Works:
Thioguanine is incorporated into the DNA of rapidly dividing cancer cells, disrupting DNA replication and causing cell death.
