Introduction to Ricovir EM Tablet

Ricovir EM Tablets are a combination of antiretroviral medication used for HIV prevention (PrEP – Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) and treatment. Manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Ricovir EM contains Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (300mg) and Emtricitabine (200mg), two powerful molecules that block HIV from multiplying in the body. 

Ricovir-EM is a generic PrEP medication and an effective alternative to Truvada.
This  tablet is specifically designed to lower the risk of HIV infection in high-risk individuals. It is also used as part of combination therapy for people already living with HIV.

How Ricovir EM Works

• Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (300mg): Blocks the reverse transcriptase enzyme, stopping HIV from making copies of itself.
• Emtricitabine (200mg): Works similarly to Tenofovir, preventing the virus from growing and spreading.

Uses of Ricovir EM

• Prevention of HIV (PrEP): PrEP is for individuals at high risk of contracting HIV, including those with HIV-positive partners.
• HIV Treatment: Used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs to manage HIV infection.
• Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP): May be used after possible exposure to HIV, under a doctor’s advice.

Dosage and Administration

• For PrEP: Take one Ricovir EM 300mg/200mg tablet daily, as prescribed by your doctor.
• For HIV Treatment: Take as part of a combination therapy as directed by your healthcare provider.
• With or Without Food: Ricovir EM can be taken with or without food.

• Regular blood tests are needed to monitor kidney and liver function.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
• Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Ricovir EM tablets, as this tablet cause drowsiness with alcohol
• Notify your doctor about liver or kidney disease, or if you have hepatitis B or C.

• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
• Certain antibiotics

Warning

• Ricovir EM does not cure HIV or AIDS.
• Use alongside safer sex practices, such as condom use, to maximize protection.
• Do not share needles or syringes while on this medication.
